Savers, a national thrift store, has opened its second store in San Jose and offers customers great deals on thousands of unique items while benefiting its nonprofit partner, HOPE Services. Store manager, Craig Gains, took time to answer a few questions about Savers and its partnership with HOPE Services.
What kind of work does Savers do with HOPE Services?
Savers has had a great relationship with HOPE Services for more than 40 years, and we’re so pleased to continue working with such a terrific nonprofit organization that is a true asset to the community. With the partnership, Savers works with HOPE Services and we pay them for every single donation – no matter if it is sold or not – that is made at the San Jose store. The money goes to support HOPE Service’s valuable programs that ensure more than 2,500 individuals living in San Jose with developmental disabilities receive the support they need to live and participate in their communities.
Why did Savers decide to open a second store in San Jose?
We generally concentrate our efforts within certain areas where both Savers and our nonprofit partners can be successful in serving local communities. We have had a very loyal customer base and great success in the San Jose area with our first store, so it made sense to look at San Jose for a second store.
How is the merchandise for the store gathered?
Merchandise in the store is made up entirely of donated items from members of the community. People can donate their gently used items by dropping off their goods at the Community Donation Center located at the store or they can get in touch with HOPE Services to schedule a home pick-up. The store has an ever-changing selection of about 100,000 items on the sales floor, and 5,000 to 15,000 quality pieces are added daily, with items ranging from clothing to household items, vintage pieces to top designer labels, and everyday items to collectables.
What types of advertising will Savers do to get people to go to the second store?
Saver’s feels it is most beneficial to run a mix of media to support its stores in order to generate the most reach. This typically includes radio or TV, online advertising and print ads. In markets where there is a strong Hispanic customer base, such as our San Jose locations, Savers will include Hispanic radio or print.
How many workers does the store have?
This new location brought about 50 new jobs to the San Jose community.
The new San Jose store and Community Donation Center, located at 4950 Almaden Expressway, will be open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Sunday 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. For more information, customers may contact the store directly at 408.448.4380 or visit www.Savers.com.
